The 1st edition of the Delhi Golf Club league powered by Apollo Vredestein Tyres proved to be a big success with 18 teams of 17 players each joining the fray. The fortnight long league saw the group knockout matches played in week one with the quarters, semi-finals and finals scheduled for week two.
The group stage saw league matches played in four-ball better ball matchplay format with 7 pairs in each match facing off using ¾ handicap difference from the back marker in each match. The top two teams at the end of the group stage from each of the 4 groups moved to the quarter finals. Each pair earned 2 points for their teams for a win. Interestingly for matches that ended before the 18th, a ½ point was available for a bye on the remaining holes.
For each team 10 players were picked by the owners while 7 were selected from the club auction draw. One key feature of the Delhi league which added great value to the player experience was the hiring of professional players & coaches as mentors for each team. Pros Gaurav Ghei, Ali Sher, Amandeep Johl, Chiragh Kumar, Arjun Singh, Manav Jaini, Vivek Bhandari, Ashok Kumar, Nonita Lal Qureshi, Brandon D Souza, Sehar and Mehar Atwal, Ajay Gupta, Dinesh Kumar, Karan Vasudeva, Vikram Sethi, Jasjit Singh & Naman Dawar were among the mentors.
The league is being organised by Delhi Golf Club and promoted by golfer Vishal Chawla’s Gran Canaria and assisted by Digraj Singh of Digraj Golf.
