In a significant new trend, Troon Golf has been selected to handle the Golf Course Maintenance at the venerable Delhi Golf Club in India. Troon has appointed New Zealander Ben Mclean to be their Golf Course Superintendent who will oversee enhancement projects including improving the golf course’s playing surfaces.
Delhi Golf Club had struggled earlier as the previous overseas superintendent ran into a severe problem with the greens in late 2019 which brought the club under severe criticism and put the future of Asian Tour pro events in jeopardy. Ben has studied at the New Zealand’s Sports Turf Institute and has worked at a number of premier golf venues, including the Royal Sydney Golf Club, in Australia and the famous Belfry Hotel & Resort in the U.K, before he became Assistant Superintendent at the renowned Brookwater Golf & Country Club in Brisbane Australia.
Delhi Golf Club had in 2019 opened after an upgradation project with Gary Player Design, demonstrating the club’s commitment to ensuring its reputation as one of the premier golf courses in Asia.
Mark Chapleski, President of Troon International, commented on the latest appointment “Delhi Golf Club has an impressive reputation in India already, but it has the potential to become a world-class golfing destination and Troon are thoroughly looking forward to working on developing its agronomic reputation led by Ben alongside the staff currently on the ground.”
Delhi Golf Club is now the third golf course that Troon International work with in India, following the appointment to Karnataka Golf Association in 2019 and Prestige Golfshire Club which has been part of the Troon family for more than seven years.
