19 year old Shubham Jaglan of Delhi playing his first year of college golf at the University of South Florida, helped his team at one of the six regional finals for the NCAA Div I Golf Championship to qualify for the National Finals in Arizona.
Viraj Garewal, a student at Davidson College, is the other player with an Indian heritage, playing at North Carolina.
After three days of regional competition across the country, 30 college teams will compete in the 2022 NCAA DI Men’s Golf Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., from May 27-June 1.
Here’s the complete list of universities that have advanced, broken down by regional qualifier:
- Palm Beach: Vanderbilt, Florida State, Florida, South Florida, College of Charleston
- New Haven: Wake Forest, North Carolina, Texas Tech, North Florida, Georgia Southern
- Norman: Oklahoma, Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas, Utah
- Columbus: Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Arkansas, East Tennessee State
- Bryan: Arizona, Pepperdine, Texas A&M, Georgia, Kansas
- Stockton: Arizona State, BYU, Stanford, Oregon, Liberty
The Finals consists of three days of stroke play on Friday, May 27 thru Sunday, May 29 (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That will be followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, May 30 to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play, as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, May 31, followed by finals on Wednesday, June 1.
