22-year-old Delhi based left hander, Diksha Dagar, followed up her 6th place finish last week with another creditable 8th place finish in Europe with rounds of 70-69-72 (total 5-under 211) at the US$ 320,000 Helsingborg Open at Allerum Golf Club in Sweden. This marked her fifth consecutive cut made on the Ladies European Tour (LET) in 2023.
Diksha had made a huge splash when at age 18, she won the 2019 Investec South African Open on the LET and then won the Aramco Team Series – London in 2021. She enjoyed a special invitation to the Tokyo Olympics and played alongside Aditi Ashok in 2021.
Diksha has qualified for the Women’s British Open three times – in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and if she keeps up her form may again qualify this summer to join Aditi Ashok who is sure to play.
Dagar entered the final round last week in 6th place, two strokes behind the 54-hole co-leaders, Nicole Garcia from South Africa and Ana Pelez Trivino from Spain. Diksha’s round commenced with a birdie on the opening hole, but encountered challenges on the 3rd, 4th, and 11th holes, resulting in bogeys. However, she rebounded with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes, ultimately concluding the final round with an even-par 72, securing a tied-8th finish.
Vani Kapoor and Tvesa Malik, both from Gurgaon, the only other Indians to make the cut shot 73-70-74 (1-over 217) and 74-74-78 (10-over 226) to finish tied-31st and 68 respectively in Sweden.
Indian players who missed the cut at 4-over 148 included Delhi’s Seher Atwal – 82-71 (+9) & Chandigarh’s Amandeep Drall – 78-76 (+10)
The next event for the Indian girls will be in Sweden this week at the US$ 2mn Scandinavian Mixed from June 8-11 at Ullna Golf Club.
