Tokyo Olympics
With the Women’s Golf event at the Olympics set to be played starting from Wednesday August 4th, 20-year-old Diksha Dagar got a last minute call to join Aditi Ashok in Tokyo.
Diksha was second alternate last week, but after South African Paula Reto tested positive for COVID and Austrian Sarah Schober withdrew, Diksha got the break she so deserved.
Diksha reached Tokyo on August 1st, directly from Northern Ireland, where she played the World Invitational on the LET Tour.
With getting flights to Tokyo being a challenge, Diksha’s father Col. Narinder Dagar, who will caddy for his daughter, talking on phone, said, “ Diksha, myself and Diksha’s coach Sundeep Verma( Chimmy) are getting our COVID tests done, two tests required inside 96 hours. Diksha leaves Belfast, Ireland, on the morning of July 31 to reach Tokyo on 1 August via London. We will have the necessary travel documents emailed to her. We are hoping to see the golf course on 2nd and 3rd.”
Diksha has been in good form on the Ladies European Tour lately, winning a team event and recording two 4th place finishes in the past few weeks.
Aditi Ashok also enjoyed her best ever finish on the tougher LPGA Tour, finishing 3rd in a two member team event a fortnight ago and picking up US$70,000 for that effort.
