Diksha Dagar dominated the event in Brazil
21 year old Indian pro Diksha Dagar, a two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour (LET) who has had a hearing deficiency since early childhood, outclassed the competition at the Deaflympics in Caxias, Brazil and won a gold medal by overwhelming American Ashlyn Johnson 5&4 in the final.
The New Delhi based Dagar, daughter of an army officer, was dominant in her run to the final, winning by 5&4 in the semis and 6&5 in the quarters. She was never seriously challenged and is likely to dominate the event in future editions also.
Golf was added to the Deaflympics in 2017. Dagar was still an amateur then but reached the final before losing in a playoff to American Yost Kaylin, who at that time was also playing on the Symetra Tour and the LPGA Tour.
Dagar is one of the few players in the world to participate in both the Olympics and the Deaflympics.
