Eagleton Golf Resort
The 18 hole championship Eagleton Golf Resort Bangalore, which has been the breeding ground for Olympians Anirban Lahiri & Udayan Mane as well as star pro Chikkarangappa has tragically had to shut down play due to a serious legal issue. The golf course is fighting a case that it has reportedly encroached upon 106 acres of government land while developing the project in the late 1990s and the government in return has asked for compensation which has compounded with interest and penalties today to a whopping ₹982 crore. The course may have to lose 77 acres and be reduced to only 9 holes if there is no change in the court’s position, which would be a disaster for golf in Bangalore as the course has hosted more than 500 national level tournaments since it opened some 25 years ago.
Due to this sudden and unforeseen turn of events, the extremely busy Prestige Golfshire club, creditably has stepped in to cooperate with Rotary International and IGU to host the annual amateur tournament with just a few days notice to ensure the junior boys and girls tournament did not suffer this week. The IGU Rotary Southern India Amateur Golf Championship is now being played from Sep. 20-24 at Prestige Golfshire.
Eagleton, earlier in 2014 surrendered 23 acres of land per an apex court order. As per the proceedings now taking place in court, the govt has taken possession of 77 acres of land within the course which is situated on the outskirts of Bangalore at Bidadi on the road to Mysore. A boundary fence is being constructed by the govt which passes the 10th tee of the ever popular course which housed a very active elite player academy for over a decade.
