26 yr old Manu Gandas of Gurgaon who has had a breakthrough year with a record 6 victories, and 13 top 10 finishes in 19 starts, took the coveted No. 1 spot on the PGTI Order of Merit, thereby establishing a new single season earnings record of ₹88,50,688. The previous record was ₹66,27,650 by Rashid Khan in 2019.
Thanks to last week’s landmark agreement between the European Tour and PGTI, Gandas is now eligible for playing rights (in Category 16) on the European Tour for 2023 which means he will be able to get into a majority of events on the tour – keeping Shubhankar Sharma company.
The European Tour has accorded similar status to the #1 on the Korean PGA Tour also – thereby offering a way for a few of the best Asians to play in Europe.
Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, who led the PGTI rankings for a good part of the season with 5 victories to his name, failed to challenge for the final tournament title in Jamshedpur which could have changed things around and had to settle for 2nd place with ₹70,99,768 in earnings.
