26-year-old Manu Gandas of Gurgaon shot 69-66-72-68 (13-under 25) to win his sixth title of the season at the inaugural SSP Chawrasia Invitational presented by TAKE Solutions at Royal Calcutta GC, in the process, breaking the record of 5 wins in a season earlier held by three players.
In addition to setting a new record, Gandas earned ₹15,00,000, taking the lead in the TATA Steel PGTI Rankings with total season earnings of ₹80,78,938.
Gandas’ earnings are already a new record for single season PGTI earnings and if he wins next week’s Rs 3 crore Tour Championship, his domestic earnings for the year will exceed ₹1 crore, a major milestone for Indian golf.
Anirban Lahiri, who was the 54-hole joint-leader alongside Gandas, finished second at 11-under 277 while Gaganjeet Bhullar produced a final round of 71 to claim third place at nine-under 279.
“I’m happy that I was able to perform the way I wanted to,” Gandas said after his win. “It’s great to have my sixth win of the season which is a record on the PGTI but I’m just looking to continue doing what I do well and not thinking too much about the records. I stuck to my plans through the week and converted a lot of chances, so it was a satisfying performance. My drives and my putting stood out this week.
“It was a memorable experience to play alongside two of Indian golf’s biggest names Anirban [Lahiri] and Gaganjeet [Bhullar]. They’ve played in the most elite fields across the world. But today I didn’t think too much about who I was playing with. Instead I only focused on controlling my own game and I did that well.”
Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, who led the PGTI Rankings heading into the tournament, finished 25th and now lies second on the money list with ₹68 lacs approximately.
Tournament host SSP Chawrasia finished tied for 21st at three-over 291 and was still the highest-placed Kolkata-based professional.
The tour will now head to Jamshedpur for the season finale, the Tata Steel Tour Championship from Dec. 21-24 with an elevated record prize fund of ₹3 crores.
