Golfers for Charity
Bangalore based Indian pro Chikkarangappa, Kolkata based Viraj Madappa and Mysore based Pranavi Urs have joined hands with an initiative by ‘Play for India’ to support the livelihoods of daily wage workers at golf courses.
Chikkarangappa S. trains at Eagleton in Bangalore, Viraj Madappa at RCGC in Kolkata and Pranavi Urs at YWGC in Mysore and with their combined efforts, they are aiming to raise over Rs 5 lakhs to support more than 400 daily wage workers who work at their respective golf courses. Due to the ongoing pandemic and closure of golf courses, the staff have been unable to find work and struggle for basic necessities. The funds raised will be distributed directly to the staff in the form of groceries.
Viraj Madappa talking about the initiative, said, “Caddies are an integral part of the game of golf. During the lockdown they don’t have a means to earn a livelihood and are suffering like many others. We thought if we could provide them ration for one month it would be helpful.”
Viraj looks forward to courses re-opening as it will allow the caddies to return to work.
