The 57th edition of the US$2.25 million Hero Indian Open is set at the DLF Golf & CC in Gurgaon from March 28-31 as an event sanctioned by the DP World (European) Tour and PGTI. While the event has been boosted by the presence of 2015 edition winner and now LIV GOLF star Anirban Lahiri after a gap of five years, Matteo Mannaserro, a former World No. 25 from Italy, will likely be another big draw.
Mannaserro won in Europe two weeks ago which means he, along with Lahiri, will start as one of the hot favourites to win.
The 30-year-old Italian was awarded the European Tour Rookie of the Year award back in 2010 for his sensational debut season when he became the youngest winner ever on the tour, at the age of 17 years 6 months.
Manassero has won two events on the Challenge Tour, a second rung men’s pro tour in Europe and one on the Alps Tour, a third rung men’s pro tour. Manassero had a strong start to his career with four wins in his first four seasons from 2010-2013 and later lost his European Tour status in 2016 and played in several events on the Alps and Challenge Tours.
In Sep. 2020, during the COVID-19 outbreak he registered his solo win on the Alps Tour at the Toscana Alps Open, regaining the lost confidence in his long journey.
In 2023, he registered two quick wins on the Challenge Tour, which helped him earn a European Tour card for the 2024 season.
Manassero has played in all four majors and we look forward to a strong performance by him at the Hero Indian Open.
