The DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) has announced that the 56th edition of the Hero Indian Open will be played at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Delhi from Feb. 17-20, 2022. This will be the fourth consecutive year that the DLF venue is hosting the event.
The tournament has also been moved forward one week. The original dates were Feb. 24-27. Playing the event earlier in February will also provide much needed relief for foreign players who tend to struggle with Indian heat in March-April.
The Hero Indian Open was not part of the European Tour’s schedule in 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, hosting the event on these dates will depend on the willingness of foreign players to make the trip to India, the travel regulations in place at the time, and the state of the Omicron variant, which is currently racing through Europe and the United States.
Should the event be held, it will mark the15th consecutive year that Hero MotoCorp will be the main sponsor. Hero MotoCorp is the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, and one of the biggest corporate promoters of multi-disciplinary sports around the world.
The Hero Indian Open is promoted by the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and was first played in 1964. The last Indian pro to win it was SSP Chawrasia, who won in 2016 & 2017.
