The Golden Eagles clinched a dramatic victory in the 4th edition of the Sreenidhi University Telangana Premier Golf League (TPGL), held from November 2 to 30, 2024, at the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA) course. The league, conceived as an exclusive platform for HGA members and associates, fosters camaraderie, healthy competition, and family participation in the sport of golf.
This year’s tournament featured 16 teams battling across eight rounds, culminating in a nail-biting final on November 30.
Inaugurated by Shri Jishnu Dev Varma on November 1, the TPGL 2024 aimed to create an inclusive yet competitive golfing atmosphere for its members. The tournament structure included five qualifying rounds, followed by intense quarterfinals, semifinals, and the much-anticipated final.
The finals brought together the Golden Eagles and Valley Warriors, two formidable teams that had displayed exceptional skills throughout the league. Played in a match-play format, the finals consisted of four singles matches and two doubles matches. At the end of regulation play, the scores were tied at 3-3, setting the stage for a decisive play-off.
Representing the Eagles, G. Mithun Reddy, and the Warriors’ Madhav Kota—both with handicaps of 5—faced off in the play-off round. The two players tied on Holes 1 and 18, forcing a sudden-death scenario on Hole 1. Under immense pressure, Mithun Reddy sank the winning putt, sparking jubilation among the Eagles.
The TPGL continues to grow and solidify its place as a premier golfing event in India, with the focus remaining on fostering a vibrant golfing culture within Telangana.
