The Indian Golf Union (IGU) and WGAI have recently signed the R&A’s Women in Golf Charter which aims to foster a culture that embraces the active participation of women in every facet of the sport, from playing to pursuing a career. Recognizing the need for a fundamental cultural shift, the charter aims to encourage national golf associations and other golf industry bodies across the world to enable women to flourish and thrive within the golfing community.
The IGU is committed towards promoting more women participation and their development in golf by signing the R&A Women in Golf Charter

The Women in Golf Charter acknowledges the ethical imperative for change and recognizes the substantial economic advantages that can be derived from increasing the number of women and girls engaged in golf. Endorsing this charter, means the IGU & WGAI intend to demonstrate their commitment to achieving gender balance and fostering an inclusive environment.
Key elements of the charter include a joint statement of intent from the golf industry, emphasising the need for unity and a dedicated focus on gender equality. Additionally, the charter commits all stakeholders to actively support initiatives that encourage more women, girls, and families to participate in golf. It further calls for proactive measures to inspire women to pursue careers in various areas of the sport.
The signing of the Women in Golf Charter should encourage the IGU and the Hero WPGT to empower women and create a more equitable landscape where women’s involvement in golf will be recognized, appreciated, and celebrated in India.
We at India Golf Weekly, intend to track and highlight the new initiatives by both bodies towards these ends, that follow in the future.
