The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has announced its men’s team for the Eisenhower Trophy and women’s team for the Espirito Santo Trophy, collectively known as the World Amateur Team Championships (WATC). The men’s event will be played from Oct. 18 to 21 while the Espirito Santo Trophy will be played from Oct. 25-28. Both events will be held in Abu Dhabi.
Yuvraj Singh from Kapurthala, Shaurya Bhattacharya from New Delhi and Rohit from Hyderabad make up the men’s team. On the women’s side, Avani Prashanth, the two-time All India Amateur Champion, and 2023 Queen Sirikit Cup winner in Philippines leads the way. She is joined by Nishna Patel from Mumbai, who finished runners-up in Asia Pacific Juniors and recently made it to the Round of 16 at the R&A’s Girls’ Amateur in England. Rounding out the team is Chandigarh’s promising Mannat Brar, the no.1 ranked amateur on the IGU’s Order of Merit.
Both the Espirito Santo Trophy and the Eisenhower Trophy are 72-hole competitions (played over four days) in which the best two individual scores in each team count towards the final score.
The players on the national teams have a busy few months coming up. Avani will also play the Asian Games end September alongside pros Aditi Ashok and Pranavi Urs; then come the National Games and the Asian Amateur Championships in Melbourne.
