The Indian Golf Union (IGU), golf’s apex body in India, has announced Nishna Patel, Avani Prashanth and Smriti Bhargav as the Indian ladies amateur team for the upcoming World Amateur Team Championships (Espirito Santo Trophy). Aug. 22-27 to be played at 2018 Ryder Cup venue, Le Golf National in Paris.
Avani Prashanth – The 15-year-old Bangalore girl is the best-ranked Indian on the WAGR with a wide range of experience performing on the International stage and a two-time winner on the Hero WPGT in India. Represented India at the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA), R&A’s Girls’ Amateur, European Ladies Amateur Championship and even topped the Asian Games selection trials at KGA in Bangalore.
Nishna Patel – 16-year-old Mumbai golfer, who has represented India at the Women’s Amateur Championship in Scotland and the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship.
Smriti Bhargav – 16-year-old from New Delhi, who has played several Hero WPGT events with a best-result of runner-up at the Leg 15 in Dec. 2021.
The Espirito Santo Trophy (World Women’s Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial world amateur team golf championship for women organised by the International Golf Federation. Recent tournaments have featured teams from around 50 countries and the best two individual stroke play scores of the 3 member teams each day count towards the final score.
The 2020 edition of the tournament was cancelled due to pandemic and the 2018 edition was won by team USA represented by Jennifer Kupcho, Kristen Gillman and Lilia Vu in Ireland when the Indian team of Sifat Sagoo, Ridhima Dilawari and Diksha Dagar represented India to finish tied-25th .
The IGU is yet to announce the men’s team for the Eisenhower Trophy scheduled at the same venue a week after the women.
This will mark the third time the championships have been played in France.
