Team India (Special Olympics – Bharat) ran away from the field to win gold in the golf event at the Special Olympics World Games held in Berlin, Germany last week.
The team of Ranveer Singh Saini and Rahul Agrawal, from Gurgaon, dominated the leaderboard throughout the tournament. They won by a remarkable 18 shots, setting a new record for winning margin in the event. A total of 20 teams competed in Berlin.
Saini in particular deserves special commendation for his outstanding achievements in the sport. He is an eleven-time National Champion and a four-time Asia Pacific Champion. Furthermore, he accomplished the rare feat of a hat trick by capturing three medals consecutively for India at the World Games in 2015, 2019, and now in 2023.
His exceptional abilities extend beyond his golfing abilities as well. He is the proud holder of five records listed in the prestigious Limca Book of Records, further solidifying his status as a remarkable athlete and a source of immense pride for the nation.
His playing partner and guide, Rahul Agarwal , a gentleman amateur at DLF G&CC, Gurgaon is known for his scratch handicap at the tough course.
