India’s top six lady amateurs, boosted by Avani Prashanth’s stunning win in Manila at the Queen Sirikit Cup, are all set to travel to the upcoming Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific Championship from March 9-12 at Singapore Island Country Club in Singapore.
The contingent set to participate in the tournament boasts a formidable combination of skill and experience. Joining the three girls who were part of the historic runner up team in Manila – Avani, Vidhatri Urs and Nishna Patel, are US based Anika Varma, Chandigarh’s Mannat Brar and newcomer Lavanya Jadon of Delhi.
The importance of the event is underlined by the winner earning invitations to play in two major professional championships – the AIG Women’s British Open and Evian Championship – as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship in Korea, and an exemption into the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship which takes place later in March.
The event is supported by the R&A of St Andrews, Augusta National Golf Club ( which hosts the annual Masters tournament in Georgia, USA) and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation.
The spotlight will be on Avani to see how she follows up her record breaking performance in Manila after a week’s break during which she completed part of her 10th Board Exams.
