Indian teams head to Asian Amateur Championships

Rayhan Thomas aims to lead the Indian squad to a strong showing

India’s top amateurs, 7 boys and 6 girls are all set to represent the nation at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships (APAC) from Oct. 27-30 at Amata Spring Country Club and the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific Championship (WAAP) from Nov. 3-6 at Siam Country Club in Thailand.

These are the most prestigious amateur events in Asia, as the winners receive invitations to compete in the 2023 Masters Tournament, an exemption into The 151st Open Championship and an exemption into The 128th Amateur Championship

Indian Men’s Team 

Rayhan Thomas – Grew up in Dubai and now plays golf at  Oklahoma State University finished 2nd at the 2018 Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in Singapore.

Shat Mishra – Current No.1 Junior on the IGU rankings from New Delhi, recently  represented India at the MCB Indian Ocean Open in Mauritius 

Milind Soni –  17-year-old from Hyderabad, recent winner of the IGU AP Amateur Championship, was part of the 2021 edition too

Shaurya Bhattacharya – Current No.1 Amateur on the IGU Rankings, recently represented India at the MCB Indian Ocean Open in Mauritius 

Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa – Freshman at the Long Beach State University, son of the former International cricketer and presenter Nikhil Chopra

Arjun Gupta –  18-year-old born and brought up in Dubai. In 2020, he had won the Abu Dhabi Amateur Championship

Aryan Roopa Anand – 19-year-old from Mysore, winner of the All India Amateur in 2019 and 2021. 

Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP)

The winner earns invitations to play in two major championships – the AIG Women’s British Open and Evian Championship – as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship and an exemption into the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship.

Indian Girls contingent 

15-year-old Mannat Brar from Chandigarh

16-year-old Kriti Chowhan from Jaipur

Ceerat Kang from Chandigarh

15-year-old Nishna Patel from Mumbai

16-year-old Avani Prashanth (131) from Bangalore, finished 14th at the last edition

20-year-old Sifat Sagoo of Chandigarh, currently studying at Purdue University
