PGA Tour – Atwal, Theegala and Chopra miss cuts in Minnesota
The trio of Arjun Atwal, Sahith Theegala and Daniel Chopra missed the cut at the US$ 7.5mn 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
Atwal,who has gone on a fitness streak in preparation for joining the over 50’s Champions Tour in March 2023, posted scores of 73-78 but was later disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard at the PGA Tour’s US$ 7.5mn 3M Open in Minnesota.
Sahith Theegala, the 24-year-old Pepperdine graduate shot consecutive rounds of 73-73 (4-over 146) to miss the cut by three-strokes while 48 year old Indian – Swede Daniel Chopra who grew up in Delhi but went on to two wins on the PGA Tour shot 78-73.
LPGA Tour – Aditi misses cut by one stroke at Women’s Major
24 year old Indian LPGA Tour star Aditi Ashok shot 71-72 (1-over 143) to miss the cut by a single stroke at the US$ 6.5mn Evian Championship in France, the fourth major on the women’s golf schedule which raised its purse by nearly 50% from US$4.5 million last year, in another sign of the big money pouring into professional golf worldwide these days.
Ashok, a two-time Olympian for India, has now played in 22 majors, the most of any Indian pro golfer, male or female. Anirban Lahiri is second with 17 majors played followed by Jeev Milkha Singh at 14. Aditi will play next in the US$ 2mn Women’s Scottish Open from July 28-31, where she will be joined by Diksha Dagar and Tvesa Malik.
The tournament was won by 24-year-old Brooke Henderson of Canada, who made three birdies in her final five holes to claim the title in a nail-biting finish, finishing 17 under par for the 4 round tournament.
PGA Champions Tour – Jeev misses cut in Scotland
Veteran star Jeev Milkha Singh who was coming off a superb 3rd place finish in Germany the previous week unfortunately failed to make the cut at the US$2.5 million Senior Open presented by Rolex at Gleneagles in Scotland, shooting 75-75.
Delhi pro Gaurav Ghei played in the qualifier in Scotland to get into the Senior Open but missed the cut by two strokes with a 2-over par score.
Over the course of his career, Jeev Milkha Singh has played in all four men’s majors with a best finish of ninth at the 2008 PGA Championship. Singh has also won four times on the European Tour and the Japan tour. He has received the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri for his achievements. His performance on the Senior Tour will be watched with great interest.
The tournament was won by Ireland’s former Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke, who birdied the 72nd hole to beat recently crowned US Senior Open champion Padraig Harrington by one stroke.
