
S.S.P. Chawrasia totaled 3-over 291 to finish tied-30th in Oman
The Indian contingent struggled in strong winds during the Asian Tour’s US$2 million International series event in Oman with 44-year-old Arjuna Awardee, and six-time winner on the Asian Tour, SSP Chawrasia of Kolkata and 31-year-old two-time Asian Tour winner Rashid Khan finishing tied for 30th at 3-over 291.
Shiv Kapur, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour who celebrated his 41st birthday on Sunday, and eight-time winner Jyoti Randhawa, could only manage a tie for 43rd at 5-over 293.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, who is the Indian record holder with 10 wins on the Asian Tour, was tied for 12th after 54 holes, but a final round 78 dropped him down the field into a tie for 52nd at 6–over 294.
Chikkarangappa S. of Bangalore finished -64th at 10-over 298, followed by Honey Baisoya at 77th at 19-over 307.
Indians who failed to make the cut which came at 6-over 150 included:
Karandeep Kochhar – 75-76 (+7)
Veer Ahlawat – 76-77 (+9)
Jeev Milkha Singh – 78-78 (+12)
The tournament was won by 24-year-old Takumi Kanaya of Japan, who was formerly ranked World No. 1 amateur. Kanaya shot 69-71-67-71 (10-under 278) to win by four shots over American veteran Berry Henson (69-73-70-70) and Sadom Kaewkanjana of Thailand (67-76-67-72).
The Indians will now play in Qatar at another US$ 2.5mn International Series event in Qatar from Feb. 16-19 at Doha Golf Club in what is set to be a record breaking season of prize money for the Asian Tour.
