Jeev Milkha Singh, who is now 51-years-old, and has four career wins on the regular Japan Golf Tour (JGTO), produced three superb rounds of 71, 67 and 72 (6-under 210) to win the Japan PGA Senior Qualifying School last week and regains playing rights on the tour which begins next month.
Singh was in a tie for fourth after his opening round of 71, but took the lead with a brilliant 67 in windy conditions on the second day at the Par-72 Ibusuki Golf Club. On the third and final day, Singh shot a steady even-par 72 in tough conditions that included rain, to finish at the head of the roughly 120-player field.
Only 11 players finished under-par and Singh’s second round 67 was the best score of the week.
“The conditions were tough but the golf course is excellent. I am happy that I was able to win the Tour card that I was aiming for,” Singh said.
The Japan Senior Tour will have 14 tournaments this year starting with Okinawa.
This is the second season for Jeev on the Japan Senior Tour. Last season he exercised his right to play on tour as “a player with two or more regular tour wins”. He played 11 events on tour and posted two top-10 finishes but finished the year ranked 42nd on the money list and had to qualify again.
