Junior hope – Kartik’s upward trajectory

15-year-old Kartik Singh is the future hope for Indian men’s golf

With a record breaking 2024 in the books, India’s highest ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), Kartik Singh, who turns 15 will be looking to continue his upward trajectory as Indian golf looks out for future world-class talent.

To start his 2025 with a bang, the phenom from Delhi will join an elite 12-member Asia Pacific All-Star Men’s Team, selected by non-playing captain Rishi Narain for the upcoming Ryder Cup-style match against the European All Stars men’s Amateur team on January 8-10 at the Al Hamra GC in Ras-Al-Khaimah, UAE.

This bi-annual showdown between the top amateur golfers from Asia and Europe will help Kartik grow as a player, building on his experience at the Junior Presidents Cup held in Canada last September. Playing alongside stars like 22-year-old Hiroshi Tai, the 2024 NCAA Division 1 individual champion who played the 2024 US Open and will tee up at the 2025 Augusta Masters, and Thailand’s Pichaksn Maichon, ranked 22 in WAGR, will help his confidence to no end.

Kartik’s rise to prominence in 2024 has been nothing short of remarkable. The young golfer, currently ranked No. 127 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), had an impressive season, notching up six victories in WAGR-recognised events. His 3rd place finish at the Junior Players’ championship in Florida and 5th position at the R&A Junior Open championship in Scotland, besides finishing 10th at the Asia Pacific Team event (Nomura Cup) in Vietnam and 18th at the Asia-Pacific Amateur in Japan show that he can perform in all countries and conditions.

Kartik now needs strong corporate sponsorship support, which he has lacked so far, so that he can continue to travel to all the top tournaments around the world for which he will be invited to in 2025. The strain of family funding his travel, training, and coaching, must move to institutions so that uncertainty does not stand in the way of India’s chance of producing a world beater, after a long time.

While Kartik is still at the start of what promises to be a long and successful career, his selection for the prestigious Bonallack Trophy Asia Pacific All star men’s team signals a bright future ahead. As he prepares to compete alongside some of the best young golfers in the world, all eyes will be on the young Indian to see how he fares in this high-stakes competition.
