Indian cricketing great Kapil Dev, who visited the PGA Tour’s flagship event – The Players in Florida last week was clearly impressed with what he witnessed.
In a message he sent India Golf Weekly, Kapil said “What an amazing time I had, me and all the friends, thanks to GT Bharat and Vishesh C. Chandiok (CEO) and his team. This was an experience which I can’t express in words. The ambience and entire organisation, seeing the tournament from so close, it was amazing. One of the finest days of my life, I can say that. I love golf, no doubt about that, but more than that, seeing these players from so close and the golf course was amazing. It was something unbelievable, around 40.000 fans on the 16th and 17th holes. We loved every moment. I wish all the golfers in our country can one day have that experience. They will come to know how big golf is in America. I wish one day an Indian can win there, or one day we can organise a tournament in India as big as that.
It was too much and a great experience for me.”
Here is a video shot by Kapil which captures the scene around the final holes at TPC Sawgrass. Although Anirban Lahiri had finished 2nd at The Players in 2022, he was absent this year along with the 2022 winner Cam Smith, since both now play The LIV Golf tour.
