Karandeep Kochhar shot 64-75-69-70 to win the Gujarat Open at the spectacular Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club in Ahmedabad and show he is more than just a Chandigarh GC specialist. He prevailed by one shot over Delhi’s Arjun Prasad for his first win on tour outside Chandigarh since turning pro.
Kochhar, the 22-year-old from Chandigarh, began the final round two shots behind a trio of overnight leaders in Ranjit Singh, Kapil Kumar and M Dharma. After shooting an even par front nine, Kochhar made birdies on the 12th and 14th, both par-5s, and chipped in for birdie on the 15th to take the lead over Prasad. Playing in the same group, Prasad had reeled off four birdies in a row from the 12th to the 14th, but he missed a 12-footer for birdie on the 15th to end his streak and fall one behind.
There was more drama to come on the final hole as Kochhar made bogey but Prasad missed a three-footer that would have forced a playoff.
The PGTI will remain in Ahmedabad this week to play the ₹ 40 lacs Glade One Masters 2022 from March 1-4 at Glade One Resort & Club.
