Keith Pelley will transition to President and CEO of MLSE

In a week marked by significant leadership changes, DPWT (formerly the European Tour) CEO Keith Pelley and R&A Chief Martin Slumbers announced their simultaneous departures. Pelley, at the helm since 2015, will transition to President and CEO of MLSE, overseeing brands like the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and NBA’s Toronto Raptors. Under Pelley’s tenure, the European Tour introduced groundbreaking initiatives, including the Rolex Series and the G4D Tour for Golfers with a Disability.

Effective April 2, Guy Kinnings, the current Deputy CEO and Executive Director of the European Tour, will succeed Pelley. Meanwhile, Slumbers, who took charge in 2015, will leave the R&A by year-end. The R&A, breaking tradition, selected Slumbers, an accomplished amateur player with a banking background, as Chief Executive and Club Secretary.

Slumbers’ tenure saw notable commercial growth in the Open Championship and Women’s British Open. He spearheaded efforts to limit elite players’ driving distances, with new regulations to “roll back” the golf ball in the coming decade. Sustainability of golf courses and financial stability became central themes during Slumbers’ impactful term. A recruitment team is now actively searching for Slumbers’ successor at the R&A.
