The Hero Women’s Indian Open once again features on the Ladies European Tour as part of a record-breaking 2022 schedule. Starting in February, tour members will compete for at least €24.5 million across 31 events. This represents the most tournaments and the most prize money ever in the tour’s 44-year history. It is an increase of €4.5m over 2021 and €13m more than in 2019.
The tour has also added two new events while eight events return to the schedule. Among the returning events is the Hero Women’s Indian Open, which is scheduled in October 2022 (Oct. 20-23). The tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“On the back of a strong 2021 season, which featured 23 tournaments, 2022 is going to be a record-breaking year for the LET with the largest total purse and number of events in history,” said LET CEO Alexandra Armas. “We will be launching new events in Asia and South Africa and returning to various territories across Europe and further afield, so it’s looking very exciting for our international membership.
The LET announcement is in line with global trends of growing corporate sponsorship of professional golf tours worldwide. With the growing participation and interest in golf, prize money and tournaments are also growing across the globe.
