Anirban Lahiri jumps to 74th in Official World Rankings

Anirban Lahiri posted yet another strong finish on the PGA Tour, finishing 6th at the US$ 9mn Wells Fargo Championship in Maryland, near Washington DC. Lahiri shot 68-68-70-71 (3-under 277) in extremely tough weather conditions the entire week and ended five shots behind winner Max Homa, who was at 8-under 272.

The 34-year-old Lahiri was within a shot of the lead in the third round before falling back with two late bogeys. He started the final round four shots behind third-round leader Keegan Bradley but struggled to get going on the front nine in cold and wet conditions, going out in one-over 36. Birdies on 10 and 12 took him to 5-under but back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 cost him a spot in the top-5.

Lahiri has been enjoying a strong run of form ever since his second-place finish at the US$20 million Player’s Championship in Florida in March, where he earned US$2.16 million ( approx Rs 17 crores) and his world ranking has jumped to 74th,  having started 2022 at 278.

Lahiri is up to 44th in the US PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Rankings, which puts him in a good spot to qualify for the season-ending Fedex Cup playoffs.
