Anirban Lahiri last week overcame the stress of his ailing mother-in-law with a 2nd place finish at the Asian Tour’s Vietnam event and this week immediately after he earned the whopping US$2 million plus 2nd place prize at LIV Golf Adelaide, he learned that the lady had succumbed to cancer.
Anirban told the media present that the immense adversity his family had been facing for the past few weeks had given him a more fearless perspective to life and golf and converted that strength into shooting 13 under on the weekends – 66, 65 in Adelaide and earlier 67, 64 in Vietnam for perhaps the two best consecutive weeks of his career.
The 35-year-old Lahiri had started the final day 11 shots behind the leader but remarkably got within 2 shots at one stage on Sunday but eventually wound up alone in 2nd place. He now will play at the LIV golf event this week at Sentosa Golf club in Singapore.
Lahiri also may get into the years’ 2nd major championship – the USPGA in May if his current 91st world ranking holds up when the field is announced.
