With the final LIV regular season event now completed , Anirban Lahiri finished in 13th position in the season-long individual standings thanks to his three runner up finishes during the year which secures his spot for the 2024 LIV season as the top 25 continue automatically.
In the final event he shot 72-67-71 to tie for 40th with an even-par total of 210 in the LIV Golf Jeddah event in Saudi Arabia. Lahiri earned $136,250 (₹1.13 crores). LIV Golf will conclude its 2023 season with the Team Championship at Trump National Doral from Oct. 20-22 in Miami.
33-year-old five time major winner Brooks Koepka successfully defended his title at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City to earn his third victory since joining the Greg Norman-led and Saudi Arabia-backed circuit. Koepka claimed the top prize of $4 million, bringing his season earnings to $13.4 million, good enough for third place in the final standings behind Taylor Gooch and Cameron Smith
Koepka beat 31-year-old Gooch in a playoff in Jeddah, but that was enough for Gooch to move ahead of Cameron Smith into first place and claim the season-long individual championship which earned him a $18 million bonus along with $2.25 million in prize money for his second-place finish.
LIV denied World Ranking Points
Off the field, a critical decision regarding the eligibility of LIV Golf for Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points was reached. It came as no surprise, the OWGR rejected the LIV Tour’s application for world ranking points. Some had speculated that the imminent finalization of the PGA Tour and PIF deal might strengthen the case for a positive response. However, the governing bodies ultimately chose to reject it.
This decision is poised to further lower the rankings of LIV Golf players, potentially resulting in missed opportunities for them at major tournaments and the Presidents Cup, as their eligibility relies heavily on the OWGR.
