The upcoming US$ 2mn International Series Vietnam this week is set to feature former PGA Tour player Anirban Lahiri, who is now part of the LIV Golf team Crushers led by Bryson DeChambeau. The tournament will take place from April 13 at the KN Golf Links in Cam Ranh, Vietnam, a Greg Norman designed course.
Lahiri, a seven-time winner on the Asian Tour, now 35 years old, will be joined by 13 fellow Indians, including Gaganjeet Bhullar, Rashid Khan, and S.S.P. Chawrasia. Lahiri has not been seen in action in India in the past year since he had to miss out on February’s US$2mn Hero Indian Open due to the DP World Tour’s ban on LIV Golfers. He couldn’t play the Asian Tour’s US$ 750,000 DGC Open due to clash of schedules with LIV Golf.
The International Series is a set of 10 men’s professional golf tournaments on the Asian Tour with purses of US$2,000,000 each committed for the next 10 years by the Saudi Public Investment Fund which also bankrolls the LIV Golf Tour. LIV players are welcome by the Asian Tour and so besides Paul Casey, who will be seen in Vietnam also, other LIV stars including Patrick Reed and others have also been seen at various Asian Tour events.
Anirban played his only other Asian Tour International Series event in Indonesia at the end of 2022 where he finished 2nd.
In 2022, seven International Series events took place on the Asian Tour, with Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent playing in all seven and earning US$ 517,845 to win the Order of Merit title and secure a spot in the LIV Golf 2023 season.
