India’s top amateur, 17-year-old Avani Prashanth, and Sneha Singh, the 2023 Hero Women’s Golf Tour (Hero WPGT) rankings leader, have traded Indian fairways for a critical challenge in the U.S. this week as they take on Stage II of the LPGA Q-Series in Florida. Avani, who was set to make her professional debut at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, opted instead to continue her pursuit of LPGA Tour status. Meanwhile, Sneha, fresh off her stellar season on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour (Hero WPGT), is also in the hunt for a place in the prestigious tour’s final qualifying stages.
So far, Sneha has carded rounds of 73-72-73, placing her tied for 92nd at 2-over par in the 194-player field. However, Avani has struggled and shot rounds of 80-74-72, standing tied for 167th at 10-over par.
Earlier in August, during Stage I of the LPGA Q-Series held in California, Avani showcased her potential with rounds of 69-71-74-68, totaling 6-under 282, to comfortably advance. The young star from Bangalore, ranked as India’s top amateur, has drawn attention as she looks to make her mark on the global stage. Hyderabad’s Sneha Singh, who clinched the top spot in the 2023 Hero WPGT rankings, also advanced with a composed performance, finishing 1-over 289 with rounds of 74-72-72-71.
With the top 35 and tied players from Stage II set to progress to the six-round Final Qualifying event in Alabama this December, both Avani and Sneha will need to dig deep. The stakes are high, with the top 25 at Final Qualifying earning full LPGA Tour status for the 2025 season, while those finishing 26th to 45th will receive conditional status. Players finishing outside the top 45 will still gain partial Epson Tour status, ensuring a competitive path forward.
