Mumbai Golf League winners – Fairway Knights
As the popularity of club run team golf leagues persists, Bombay Presidency Golf Club ( BPGC) hosted the 4th annual edition of the popular Mumbai Golf League ( MGL)
12 teams with 24 players per team meant that 288 players participated in this compact league held over two consecutive weeks: 1st – 3rd Dec and 7th – 10th December, 2023.
In a thrilling culmination of the League, Fairway Knights emerged victorious after a nail-biting playoff against Usual Suspects on December 10, 2023. The league, exclusive to Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC) members, featured a few new teams named Swinging Samurais, Mumbai United, and Golden Bears.
With 350 entries within a week, a meticulous categorization based on Handicap Index into five groups ensured fair play. The auction process whittled down the list to 288 participants, forming teams of 24 players each. The tournament spanned three days, with two rounds among the teams. The top four teams, after the completion of the second round, advanced to the finals.
Following the initial round, Usual Suspects, Ninjas, Golfing Aryans, and Fairway Knights led with 15 points each. The second round saw Fairway Knights and Ninjas maintaining their dominance, securing 29 points each, while Usual Suspects and Fore Amigos secured 27 points each to secure spots in the finals.
The ultimate showdown between Usual Suspects and Fairway Knights ended in a tie, resulting in a playoff. Mr. Shivtaj Singh of Fairway Knights emerged victorious in the playoff against Mr. Tarun Bali of Usual Suspects, securing the championship for Fairway Knights in a thrilling conclusion to MGL-4. The tournament, like other club leagues, featured entertaining events such as a mega auction gala night, a poolside party, and a grand prize presentation finale.
