The first-ever Panchkula Golf League teed off on April 7 at the Panchkula Golf Club, featuring 16 teams and 224 players. The event is structured into two stages: a round-robin phase, followed by a knockout phase.

Each team fields 14 members, mandatorily including a lady golfer, a senior golfer above 70 years, and golfers from varied handicap categories, reflecting an inclusive and structured competition format.

The round-robin stage comprises seven match days, with eight matches scheduled daily. The quarter-finals will take place on April 18, semi-finals on April 20, and the final is slated for April 23.

The organising committee, led by V.S. Kundu (IAS), has focused on strengthening internal camaraderie and raising the competitive bar for members of the Panchkula Golf Club and the broader tricity golf community.

“We believe this initiative will significantly boost both the performance standards and community spirit of the club,” said Kundu during the press briefing.

The APGL draws from the model of similar leagues held in neighbouring Chandigarh GC, which has successfully hosted three editions of its own golf league.

With both Pune and Panchkula hosting club leagues simultaneously, April marks a significant chapter in the growing landscape of Indian recreational and semi-competitive golf. The structured team formats, diversity of participants, and scale of participation point to an evolving, vibrant club culture around the sport.
