49-year-old Arjun Atwal started his week with a spectacular 8 under par 63 but could only add rounds of 71-70-73 to end with a total of 7-under 277 and finish 49th at the US$ 6.5mn Bermuda Championship on the PGA Tour. The event was won by Irishman Seamus Power, age 35, who shot 65-65-65-70 (19-under 265) to win by one over Thomas Detry of Belgium after surviving a weak finish. This was Atwal’s first tournament since he lost his father Bindi Atwal to cancer in July in India.
Arjun Atwal shot a first-round 63 (-9) at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship after Nicholas Lindheim withdrew 20 minutes before his tee time and Atwal replaced him. The last time Atwal shot 63 or better on TOUR was 10 years ago (63/R2/2012 RSM Classic)

Atwal, as a former PGA Tour winner, still gets a few invitations to play PGA Tour events under the Past Winners Category but is expected to do good things when he turns 50 and makes his debut on the lucrative PGA Champions’ Tour in 2023. Atwal is confident of his chances and could well become the first Indian to win on the Champions’ Tour after becoming the only Indian till date to have won on the PGA Tour.
