Following a breakout season in which he won four times, including at The Masters, and rose to No. 1 in the world, Scottie Scheffler has been named the 2022 PGA TOUR Player of the Year by his fellow players in a landslide, receiving 89 percent of the votes cast by PGA Tour members. THe other two players who had been nominated were British Open champion Cam Smith and FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy, both of whom won three times. Smith has since left for the Saudi-backed LIV Tour and was never going to be given the award for that reason.
Scheffler, was presented the Jack Nicklaus Award for PGA TOUR Player of the Year during an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay on Sept. 10.

The 26-year-old Scheffler is also the first golfer to be named the Player of the Year on the Korn Ferry Tour (2019), PGA TOUR’s Rookie of the Year (2020) and now PGA Tour Player of the Year since the awards were established in 1990.
His total earnings of $14,046,910 set a new regular season record for the PGA Tour. When you include the bonuses he received for leading Fed-Ex Cup regular season standings and eventually finishing second, his total earnings for the season were almost $25 million.
“Undoubtedly, one of the highest compliments a player can receive is the endorsement from his peers, and the fact that Scottie’s season was both dominant and consistent spoke volumes to the membership,” commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement.
