The big three of Indian golf for around 20 years from 1995 to 2015 – Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal, who have become eligible for the over 50 age group Champions Tour, missed getting full playing rights in the USA by finishing outside the top 5 in the Qualifying tournament held in Arizona last week. . Jyoti, who has eight victories on the Asian Tour, shot 72-71-66-71 (4-under 280) to finish in the top 30 becomes eligible to enter the qualifying events each week on the 2023 PGA Champions Tour, an option he is expected to use sparingly.
Jeev Milkha Singh started well with an opening round of 5-under 66 which put him in 2nd place but scores of 74-71-74 left him in 32nd place. Arjun Atwal, who received exemption to the final stage due to his 2010 PGA Tour win shot 74-75-68-71 (4-over 288) to finish tied for 64th in Arizona. Atwal who was in good form during early 2022, has suffered the heartbreaking loss of both his parents which would have affected his frame of mind.
En route to the final stage, Jeev Milkha Singh played Qualifying Stage-I in Nevada, where he finished third and Jyoti Randhawa was 12th at his qualifier in Florida.
