The R&A of St. Andrews which is better known for staging The Open Championship, publishing the Official Rules of Golf and conducting various tournaments around the globe,  is taking a significant step forward in promoting sustainable golf course management by extending its Sustainable Agronomy Service to offer expert guidance and best practices to golf facilities across Great Britain, Ireland, and continental Europe.

Originally launched in the Asia-Pacific market, this service is now available worldwide, providing golf clubs with support in various critical areas. These services encompass:

  1. Sustainable Agronomy
  2. Golf Course Auditing and Benchmarking
  3. Management Planning and Strategic Advice
  4. Annual Maintenance Programme Planning
  5. Project Management Support and Drainage Design

The Sustainable Agronomy Service addresses challenges posed by changing legislation on pesticides, climate change, and resource accessibility.

Within the Asia-Pacific region, renowned clubs and organisations like Hann Golf Reserve, Thai Country Club in Bangkok, and Faldo Design are already benefiting from this service, which tailors agronomic guidance to support the unique sustainability goals of each location.

Chris Gray, Head of Sustainable Golf and Agronomy – Asia Pacific, who will be speaking at th GIA Summit in Gurgaon this week,  said: “Turf presentation and playing conditions are integral to the success of any facility. Our service in the Asia-Pacific region provides the tools and guidance to maintain and optimise year-round course playability through the most efficient and sustainable agronomic methods”.
