Two-time Asian Tour winner Rashid Khan of Delhi shot a scorching 10-under 62 in his final round to jump to sixth place at the US$ 400,000 Royal’s Cup 2022 at Grand Prix Golf Club in Thailand. Khan’s 62 was the low score of the week and took him to 15-under following rounds of 72-69-70 on the first three days.
The tournament was won by Chinese Taipei’s Chan Shih-chang, who finished 23-under (265).
Khan picked up US$ 9,617 (₹7.2 lacs) to lead the Indians on the 2022 Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Five of the 12 Indians in the field made the cut. Bangalore’s talented Chikkarangappa S. was in the top five after the second and third days but finished tied-12th with scores of 67-67-70-70 (14-under 274). The experienced Rahil Gangjee who played the last two years in Japan, in his first start since Nov. 2021, shot 67-73-70-69 (9-under 279) to finish tied-38th. He was followed by Patna’s Aman Raj 68-67-75-71 & Kolkata’s Viraj Madappa 69-72-70-70 (7-under 271), who earned a share of 45th place.

This was the Asian Tour’s second event of the season. The next event will be the inaugural US$ 1.5mn International Series Thailand event at Black Mountain from March 3-6.
