Riya Jadon played her maiden R&A Junior Girls in the UK

15-year-old Riya Jadon from DLF Golf & Country Club was the sole Indian participant in The Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship conducted by the R&A. She posted rounds of 76-76-84, securing a tied-40th place finish at the Berkshire Golf Club in London, UK.

The tournament saw participation from 97 amateurs across the world, and incessant rains and speedy winds made playing conditions difficult on the final day.

Last year, Zara Anand from Delhi had carded rounds of 74-72-75 to finish tied-5th at the tournament at a total score of 5-over 221. Zara skipped the under 16 event this year but will go for the under 18 event coming up later this summer.

The 54-hole stroke play championship, first played at Fulford in 2018, was introduced as part of the R&A’s drive to boost girls’ games in Great Britain, Ireland and beyond, as well as provide a pathway to elite amateur level for leading young players.

The tournament winner is presented with the Angela Uzielli Trophy. The trophy is named after the late wife of John Uzielli, Past Captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. Angela was a decorated amateur golfer, including representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup in 1978.
