Sandeep Sandhu adds international victory to his name

Chandigarh’s Sandeep Sandhu, a former Chandigarh GC captain created history of sorts by dominating the HK Senior Amateur with an amazing 12 stroke victory in the face of some strong local and regional contenders.

Sandhu put together rounds of 71 , 72 and then a scintillating final 67 to outclass the rest of the field at a total of 210 compared to the runner up Ian Clarke of UK on 222 ( 74,76,72).

The tournament was played at the historic Royal HongKong GC which has hosted numerous editions of the HK Open which has hosted all the world’s top players over the years.

Players from UK, HK, Japan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, and the USA participated.

Sandhu has been honing his competitive strokeplay skills on the AVT Champions Tour for over 50 golfers since 2019 where he has won the last four events in a row.

He recently finished a creditable 6th individually at the Asia Pacific Seniors in Vietnam, the best finish by an Indian in the past decade, while leading India to a 4th place finish as a team, its best in recent years.

Jaideep Singh of Kolkota who lost in a playoff in November for the All India Seniors title finished a creditable 13th in Hong Kong.

Sandhu is now looking to continue his success playing other international senior amateur events in the region and Europe.
