In what turned out a very close contest for the season ending #1 position, 25-year-old Seher Atwal won the 16th and final Leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at TNGF Cosmo Golf Club in Chennai, but fell a little short of catching Sneha Singh who has been leading the rankings most of the year
Sneha of HGA, Hyderabad, took runner up position in Chennai but was able to fend off her challengers for the #1 season long position which was up for grabs right till the final hole.
Neha Tripathi, the other three-time winner this season, finished fourth at 5-over 145.
In a tightly contested event that concluded with Seher securing the top position and Sneha as the runners-up, Neha found herself in a pivotal situation during the third round. Needing to surpass Sneha and accumulate a minimum of Rs. 27,792 more, Neha started the day with promise, registering birdies on the second and third holes. However, her fortunes took a downturn on the back nine, marked by bogeys on the 10th, 12th, and 14th, and a double bogey on the 16th, followed by another bogey on the 17th. Despite a lone birdie on the Par-3 13th, Neha’s final score of 73 relegated her to a fourth-place finish.
Her bid for the title and the coveted Order of Merit had been promising until the 16th tee, where a double bogey proved costly. Despite the setback, she managed to secure the second spot on the Order of Merit, with Sneha maintaining her position at the summit and claiming the honours.
Seher rose to third spot on the Order of Merit, in rain shortened tournament to 36 holes played in wet and soggy conditions.
