Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, which has hosted the Singapore Open for several years now,  announced a commitment to become the world’s first ever carbon neutral golf club by next year.

The announcement was made during its hosting of the HSBC Women’s World Championship in April. The golf course plans on to use the contributions from golf rounds over the next 12 months which will be set aside to support the purchase of certified carbon offsets through regional Forestry or Blue Carbon projects that will arrogate atmospheric carbon.

Sentosa Golf Club has always been a front-runner of the green initiatives such as – 1. Achieving Singapore’s Green Mark certification through enhancing the energy efficiency of its clubhouse, 2. First in the region to introduce lithium battery golf carts and 3. Deploying 1200 sprinklers to increase the efficiency of its irrigation system.

India Golf Weekly supports all such environmentally friendly initiatives as its an imperative for all stakeholders in the sport to embrace sustainability practices with urgency.
