Tiger Woods’ was given credit as being the inspiration behind Serena Williams’ strong showing at the US Open tennis tournament in NYC last week as Woods was sitting in Williams’ player box at Arthur Ashe Stadium, for Williams’ second-round victory over world No. 2 Anett Kontaveit. Serena made it to the 3rd round before exiting in what could be her last ever appearance at the event.
The ESPN telecast frequently showed Woods in the stands, and though he wasn’t knocking in a winning putt, the 15-time major champion broke out his signature fist pump.
It was a privilege to watch greatness. Congrats @serenawilliams

In Williams’ post-match press conference, the 23-time Grand Slam champion credited Woods, 46, for being a vital part of her farewell tour.
Williams gave it her all one last time, trying to tie Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles, as she fell to Ajla Tomljanovic in a three-set tie on Arthur Ashe for a 3rd round exit from the U.S. Open.
