Shubhankar Sharma who is playing his seventh season on the DP World Tour followed his 16th place finish last week in Dubai with a 37th place finish at the US$ 2.5mn Ras Al Khaimah Championship in UAE with scores of 70-68-72-68 (total 10-under 278).
Sharma earned US$ 15,000 for his efforts and is looking like improving on his record of cuts made this year after an up and down season in 2023.
The other Indian in the tournament, PGTI veteran and the 2023 PGTI No 1, OP Chouhan was making his European Tour debut having earned European playing rights after topping the domestic circuit. He scored 74-74 to miss the cut by seven strokes.
It remains to be seen if Chouhan can make the adjustment from Indian courses to European Tour playing conditions. Last year Manu Gandas who also got European Tour playing rights after topping the PGTI in 2022 found the going tough in Europe and was unable to make any real progress given the vast difference in the length and condition of the courses as well as the quality and depth of competition.
The two Indians this week play the US$ 2.5mn Bahrain Championship as the European Tour continues with its middle east series of events.
