The International Golf Federation announced this week that European Tour winners Shubhankar Sharma from Chandigarh and Gaganjeet Bhullar from Amritsar have successfully qualified and will make their Olympic debut in the men’s golf competition for the Paris Olympics, August 1-4 at Le Golf National, the same course that hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Sharma and Bhullar secured their Olympic spots by being ranked 48th and 54th, respectively, on the latest Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR) during the qualification period between June 2022 to June 2024.
According to the qualification rules, the top 15 players from the OGR qualify for the Olympics, with a maximum of four athletes per country. Beyond that, up to two eligible players per country can qualify, provided there are not already two or more golfers from that country in the top 15. The field will be 60 players only and the competition is played over four days of strokeplay with no halfway cut.
