The new US$ 1.5mn Hero Open at Fairmont, St. Andrews, Scotland saw 5 Indians in the field. It was 24-year-old Shubhankar Sharma, who played solidly, finishing tied-16th with rounds of 67-67-73-67 for a total of 14-under 274. Shubhankar was close to being in contention towards the end of Rd 3 when suddenly he dropped 4 shots in his closing 3 holes to spoil his chances. He earned US$ 17,500 (₹13 lacs) for his performance, taking his total earnings to US$ 162,500 (₹1.2 crores) for the season. In 2021, Sharma has played 19 events, made 10 cuts and has two Top-20 finishes to his name so far.
Other Indians in the field included Ajeetesh Sandhu, Gaganjeet Bhullar, SSP Chawrasia and Shiv Kapur. Bhullar recovered well after an opening 76 to shoot 67-68-69 and end with a total of 8-under 280 to finish tied-38th. SSP Chawrasia, playing his first event in over two months, shot 76-67-75-78.
