India’s lone star on the European Tour (now known as the DP World Tour), 27-year-old Shubhankar Sharma of Chandigarh, finished strongly last week at the US$ 2.5mn KLM Open in Netherlands with a 68 to finish 44th, marking his remarkable, 11th cut in 14 events played this season.
Sharma carded rounds of 70-72-74-68 for a total score of even-par 284. In the past two events, Sharma had faltered on the final day with 77 at the Scandinavian Mixed and 78 at the European Open, so his strong Sunday showing in Netherlands was welcome.
Sharma has one top 10 finish – his 7th place at the Singapore Classic earlier in the year.
Compared to his past two seasons, Sharma has improved his scoring average in 2024 to 70.98 from 71.97 and 71.24, the previous two years.
He is also close to achieving the €5 million career earnings mark on the European Tour, where he is playing his 8th consecutive season and is only 50,000 Euros short.
This week, the tour moves to Italy for the US$ 3.25mn Italian Open from June 27-30.
