After starting the final round in 9th place, Shubhankar Sharma at 7-under par was just three strokes behind the leaders and looked to be in for a strong final day finish. However he sadly dropped 6 shots in his first four holes, for a 1 under finish in 50th place at the US$ 2.35mn Omega European Masters in Switzerland. Surely a huge disappointment for the talented 24 year old from Chandigarh.
Shubhankar has been playing solid golf for the past month and except for the 3 hole stretch on Sunday where he went double bogey, triple bogey, bogey, he has enjoyed good form.
Sharma picked up US$ 10,000 (₹7.3 lacs) for the week taking his total European Tour season winnings to US$ 199,500 (₹ 1.46 crores) moving him to 114th on the European Tour rankings with 10 events to go where the top 128 automatically retain their playing privileges on the Tour in 2022. In 2021, Sharma has made 12 cuts in 21 events, with two Top-10 finishes and now heads to Rome for the US$ 3.5mn Italian Open from Sep. 2-5.
SSP Chawrasia, the only other Indian in the field shot two 71’s to miss the cut line set at 1-under par.
