51-year-old Simi Mehra, a trailblazer in Indian women’s professional golf, made her mark once again at the prestigious US$400,000 Senior LPGA Championship held at Sultan’s Run Golf Club in Indiana. Simi, who became the first Indian pro to play on the LPGA Tour back in 1997, finished tied-30th with a commendable performance of 77-72-75 (8-over 224).
The Senior LPGA Championship, established in 2017, is on the Legends Tour. The inaugural event took place at The Pete Dye Course in French Lick, Indiana. Notably, this tournament sets a minimum age requirement of 45, attracting seasoned players who continue to excel in their golfing careers.

In a remarkable feat last year, Simi became the first Indian pro to qualify for the U.S. Senior Women’s Open after shooting 74, winning the qualifying tournament.
Hailing from Kolkata, Simi boasts a pioneering career for Indians in women’s professional golf, highlighted by a 6th place finish at the 1998 Women’s British Open, and three wins on the LPGA’s Symetra Tour (now Epson Tour). Her contributions to the sport include being part of the team that established the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), which runs the Hero Women’s Indian Open since 2007 and runs the 14 event domestic tour for women’s professional golf in India, Hero WPGT. Her groundbreaking efforts have paved the way for aspiring Indian women golfers and she is a true pioneer in Indian women’s golf.
